ALOLA 'AINA - LOVE FOR THE LAND
Hawaiian Mother Earth, or Papahanaumoku, represents the Earth’s nurturing
and life-giving force in Hawaiian culture. She is revered as the goddess who
sustains all life, embodying the deep connection between the land, sea, and sky.
This sacred figure highlights the Hawaiian belief in the interconnectedness of
nature and humanity. Papa’s husband is Wakea, Father Sky. Together, they gave birth
to the Hawaiian Islands and the people. The lyrics reference an old saying still
commonly used today, ?ke one hanau’, ?the sand of my birth’, referring to Hawai‘i
as the ancestral homeland of the Hawaiian people. This sentiment is the essence of
?Aloha ?Aina. Our talented sand artist creates stunning images and stories by
skillfully shaping sand. The artist rapidly builds and transforms scenes, telling
the tale of Papahanaumoku, Mother Earth, accompanied by a singer. This collaboration
creates an ephemeral and captivating experience for the audience.
