Experience
{1990} Handbalancing

Hand balancing is the performance of acrobatic body shape changing movements, or stationary poses, or both, while balanced on and supported entirely by one's hands or arms. It is performed by acro dancers, circus performers, gymnasts, and sports acrobats. Hand balancing may be performed by partners or individuals. In partner hand balancing, a strong bottom mounter supports the top mounter in handstands, planches and other acrobatic poses. In solo hand balancing, a single artist performs handstands, one-hand stands, planches and other equilbristic maneuvers, usually on top of pommels, blocks or other apparatuses.

As Eric Varelas and Amelie Demay prolong the slower tempos of the tango to the breaking point, the tension rises, drawing the audience closer and closer into the circle of magnetic attraction that connects the two young performers. Theirs is a world of passion, of perfect yet unspoken communication, of two bodies and mind moving, feeling and thinking as one. Yet their style is anything but pretentious, and their execution is imbued with a dual sense of self-assured elegance and total vulnerability that gives true meaning to the words "Grace and Balance". When we watch these two performers barely out of their teens, we are not just beholding a brilliant display of acrobatic skill. Eric and Amelie reveal themselves through their medium - and judging by audience reactions everywhere, the spectators definitely get the message!
